Gut Health and Fixing Sleep

A Functional Medicine Approach to Gastrointestinal Disorders

Gastrointestinal symptoms are one of the most common complaints for a patients to see a doctor. Unfortunately, long term use of medications can cause micronutrient deficiencies, SIBO, IBS, and an increased risk of other chronic diseases. In addition, more and more research has demonstrated heavy-exercised induced intestinal permeability. An ideal approach should focus on diet, lifestyle, identifying the underlying cause, and restoring intestinal function.

Dr. Jurgelewicz will take you through a functional medicine approach to gastrointestinal disorders. He will explain the factors that contribute to these conditions and how to assess overall gastrointestinal health by comprehensive molecular evaluation of the gut microbiome, gut inflammation, and digestive function. This includes an assessment of bacteria, protozoal, viral pathogens, opportunistic, and beneficial organisms. Dr. Jurgelewicz will then discuss an integrated treatment approach in gastrointestinal disorders with personal case studies and review nutritional therapeutics using a 4-R approach to GI health.

Key Objectives:

1. Identify factors that contribute to H. pylori, GERD, SIBO, IBS as well as autoimmune disease
2. Evaluate and interpret the status of the microbiome
3. Assess digestive function and gut inflammation
4. Determine diet and nutritional therapeutics for patients presenting with GI disorders and autoimmune conditions

Sleep Disturbances

Chronic problems with sleep have become an increasing epidemic. Quality sleep is essential for optimal health and sports performance. Sleep disturbances have been shown to exacerbate chronic disease states. Dr. Jurgelewicz will present diet, lifestyle and nutritional strategies that can restore quality sleep.

Key Objectives:

1. Identify conditions that disrupt sleep
